Ernst & Young EOY 2017; SGV hopes for more nominees from Cebu

CEBU, Philippines - SGV Foundation is looking to have more nominees from Visayas particularly Cebu for this year's Ernst & Young (EY) Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY).

In an interview at the Cebu launch of the 2017 EOY, Maria Luz Balmaceda, senior director for communications at SGV, said they would be expecting a good number of nominees from Cebu, given its "dynamic" business activity.

She said the Visayas region in general is known to be a hub for entrepreneurs.

Nationwide, they expect around 50 or more nominees, around 10 of which are expected to come from Visayas.

Wilson Tan, SGV vice chair for client service, believes the continued growth of the Philippine economy bodes well for the rise of new businesses.

"We see the competitive landscape is becoming more stronger," he said.

"We also believe that Philippine entrepreneurs will be able to step up," he added.

Nominations for the 2017 EOY, which can be done online through SGV website, are now open until May 31, 2017.

The 2017 EOY Philippines program honors entrepreneurial leaders who transform businesses, products and services with foresight, courage and compassion.

The award categories include Master Entrepreneur, Small Business Entrepreneur, Woman Entrepreneur, and Young Entrepreneur.

From among these category winners will emerge the Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines 2017 who will represent the country in the 2018 World Entrepreneur of the Year in Monte Carlo, Monaco in June 2018.

The awarding of the Philippines EOY 2017 will be on Oct. 18 this year in Manila.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards program was created in the United States by Ernst & Young in 1986 to honor entrepreneurs whose ingenuity and perseverance have created and sustained successful, growing ventures.

The EOY is celebrated in 145 cities across 60 countries.

Now, more than ever, entrepreneurs are disrupting the way people do business, leading others to be more ingenious and creative. (FREEMAN)
