Telco picks Cebu as pilot area for mobile truck service center

Carlo S. Lorenciana - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) has chosen Cebu, which is its biggest zone in terms of subscriber-base and revenue, as pilot area for its mobile truck service center.

The mobile truck accepts and transacts payments at its five business offices in Cebu located in Jones, Mabolo, Mandaue, Mactan and Talisay.

Jonel Ladaban, vice president at PLDT and head of Credit and Collection Management Group, said the mobile truck, called the PLDT Pay Express, will be deployed to payment centers that usually experience heavy bill transaction traffic during peak dates.

He said the truck, manned by at least four cashiers, will be stationed in the five Cebu offices at different days of the month, close to the due dates of each area.

The official said they hope to speed up processing of bills payments.

"Cebu happens to be the biggest zone of PLDT in the Philippines. It is bigger than Mandaluyong and Makati. This is the perfect area to implement the mobile truck," Ladaban told reporters yesterday.

Bong Lintag, first vice president at PLDT, added that Cebu has the biggest subscriber-base and revenue potential.

Ladaban said the company is looking to deploy four more mobile vans next year and it is considering key areas in Luzon.

The project is jointly initiated by PLDT and Customer Frontline Solutions, a subsidiary of Meralco and Bayadcenter. (FREEMAN)
