Phl businesses need to adapt to organizational changes

CEBU, Philippines - With the Philippine economy growing at its fastest pace and heralded as one of the emerging markets in the world, organizers of an international training and development (T&D) summit see the need for businesses to adapt to organizational changes.

The Philippine Society for Training and Development (PSTD) Cebu, Corp. believes that training and development professionals must now take on the responsibility of trailblazing learning trends and solutions to meet the dynamic needs of people for organizational growth and sustainability.

“Robust economic growth demands a more responsive approach to organizational change,” it said in a statement to the press.

PSTD Cebu is a training and development organization in the country that aims to provide opportunities and resources for trainers to further hone their skills and training techniques and establish a ready pool of professional trainers for organizations to benefit from.

Officials said that there is an increasing need for both public and private sectors to, as an example, create succession management plans within their organizations to ascertain business continuity.

In some instances where advancement in technology outpaces the growth of traditional businesses—case in point: publishing companies are threatened by the onset of online media— private organizations are called on to determine and understand their obstacles and strategize ways to convert these into opportunities.

Many of the practices that will help organizations respond more appropriately to the growing demands of the economy will be discussed in PSTD’s two-day T&D summit starting today at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino.

The summit is expected to tackle down ways on trailblazing in the T&D function with focus on learning innovations and technology. It will also discuss what type of training will work for varying organizations and creative training techniques, among others.

Other talks will include a roadmap to organizational development role transformation in the organization, career pathways for T&D professionals, application of transactional analysis concepts in training, sales and salesmanship training, technical skills training and experiential learning strategies for impactful organizational learning and development.

The international T&D summit is said to be the biggest gathering of trainers, organizational development professionals, coaches, educators, authors and learning and development advocates this year.

It is poised to bring in 18 of the world’s renowned thought leaders to Cebu. Roland Sullivan, one of the original 100 change agents and organizational development pioneers, will headline this even via live feed directly from the United States.

Speakers include Joanne Weston Edes, leadership and performance coach of Australian-based CPP Asia Pacific; Al Argo, an American author and international speaker; Ernesto Espinosa, past and the only Filipino president of the World Federation of People Management Associations; Dale Carnegie, trainer of Chicago Padma Siap; and Mario Silos, Intellicare president and chief executive officer.

With its holding of this international T&D summit, PSTD said Cebu is setting another milestone and positions itself as the new T&D hub in the country. (FREEMAN)
