Samsung Galaxy A71: An awesome trifecta of fun
MANILA, Philippines — Unlike the era when Nokia’s stable of phones reigned supreme over its rivals, the battle of smartphones today seems to be in an endless cycle of varying gradual improvements that makes new releases indistinguishable to one another.
But as we ushered in a new decade, Samsung managed to pierce through that monotonous loop when it recently dangled its newest offering in the midrange arena - the Galaxy A71.
Admittedly, the newest addition to the A Series family has successfully made its way into my consciousness because of its catchy tune that effectively highlights the core strengths of the smartphone.
But the question now is, does the Galaxy A71 distinguishes itself as the midrange smartphone that caters to the needs of the Generation Z? Here’s what I learned when I used it as my main device for a week.
First off, let’s talk about the screen. The Galaxy A71 has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus display that sports a noticeably slimmer bezel. A hole-punch cutout design sits near the top of the screen, much like the design language that can be found on the Galaxy Note 10.
Like any modern-day Samsung device, the display on the Galaxy A71 meets our expectations in terms of detail, color accuracy, brightness and sharpness. Everything that appears on the screen is quite excellent. There’s also an option to adjust the color of the screen display to suite your viewing pleasure. Additionally, the A71’s screen works decently in outdoors, even in direct sunlight.
Unarguably, the main selling point of the Galaxy A71 must be its array of cameras. The phone features a front-facing 32-megapixel F2.2 camera that impressively produces stunning high-resolution photos.
The face recognition feature works blazingly fast in almost every lighting condition. Even if I’m wearing glasses, the security feature unlocks itself within a second, which is quite convenient than using the on-screen fingerprint scanner.
Flip it around and you’ll see a quadruple camera set up on the upper-left side consisting of a 64-megapixel F1.8 main camera, a 12-megapixel F2.2 ultra-wide, a 5-megapixel F2.4 macro and a 5-megapixel F2.2 depth lens.
The A71’s rear camera set up offers versatility in taking photos in various conditions. The 123-degree angle of the ultra-wide lens is useful when taking landscape and group photos as well as snapping photos of huge subjects right in front of you. Aside from that, it’s also capable of producing super steady shots which is quite efficient when recording videos even when you’re on the go.
Alternatively, the A71’s macro lens brings a whole new level of detail when capturing close-up shots, especially when using the ‘bokeh’ effect feature in order to make the subject pops out.
The cherry on top of the Galaxy A71 is its 4,500mAh battery, which barely breached the 50 percent threshold when I used it the entire day for playing games and watching series online. Should a need to recharge arises, the Galaxy A71 quickly regenerates itself, thanks to its 25W fast charging capability.
In terms of the specs department, the A71 does not disappoint for the midrange category. The Galaxy A71 is powered by a Snapdragon 730G, 8nm Octa Core along with an 8GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.
There are no hiccups even if I was using the typical social media applications simultaneously. Playing console-like quality games such as Call of Duty: Mobile also has smooth refresh rates even if there are apps that are running on the background.
Bottomline is, Samsung has created a contender in the midrange category with the Galaxy A71 not just because of its awesome screen, awesome camera, and long-lasting battery life. But because it caters to the day to day needs of this generation.
