In the first part of this piece on Somalia’s untold beauty, I presented some of the fascinating succulent flora of this country whose image has been largely tarnished by the rampant piracy occurring in its waters.

Over the last five or so years writing Succulentophile, quite a few people have asked me if there are any cacti or succulents that are naturally occurring in the Philippines.

This is Part 2 of my discussion on the flowering habits of well-tended cacti.  After the first wave of flowering which normally occurs in March when succulents start to make new growth, certain cacti will flower again and again throughout the summer up till the early fall period, producing a second and even a third wave of blooms.

Many cacti and succulent plant hobbyists usually have a second hobby, and usually it’s having pets such as birds, tropical fishes, dogs, reptiles and other animals. In the upcoming Garden and Pet Show and Bazaar to be held at the Quezon City Hall Orchidarium, plants and pets will be featured side by side. The show will open on Nov. 11 and will run until Nov. 20. [DatePublished] => 2006-11-04 00:00:00 [ColumnID] => 133260 [Focus] => 0 [AuthorID] => 1440497 [AuthorName] => Kevin G. I have been going to Sagada nearly every year since the late 1980s for various reasons: to indulge my photography, clear my head and satisfy my wanderlust, mostly. However, my latest hobbies – collecting succulents and making pottery – have given me new reasons for visiting that place so far up north.
