[Summary] =>

[Title] => Cosmetic doctor faces tax charges
[Summary] => The Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) has ordered the arrest of a cosmetic surgeon charged by the Department of Justice (DOJ) with tax evasion amounting to P3.4 million and for perjury.
In a one-page resolution, the CTA second division said it found probable cause to issue a warrant of arrest against Joel Mendez, who owns the Weigh Less Center chain.
The DOJ earlier junked the motion for reconsideration filed by Mendez, which sought the dismissal of the tax evasion complaint filed against him by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

[Title] => Songbird escapes tax raps
[Summary] => The Department of Justice (DOJ) dismissed yesterday the tax evasion case against Asian songbird Regine Velasquez on a technicality.
In a nine-page resolution promulgated by State Prosecutor Roseanne Elepano-Balauga and Assistant Chief State Prosecutor Miguel Gudio, the DOJ dismissed the case because the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) had deprived Velasquez of due process by not notifying her about her tax deficiency before charging her with tax evasion.
