A municipal councilor of Consolacion is seeking the opinion of the Provincial Board, the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Ombudsman about whether the Sangguniang Kabataan chairwoman of the town can continue holding her office now that she is pregnant out of wedlock.


In his October 2 letter, Consolacion municipal councilor Arnulfo Aurelio Abinales asked about whether the SK chairwoman should continue to be an ex-officio member of the municipal council despite her condition, and what possible sanctions can be imposed upon her.

The barangay council of T. Padilla expelled one of its members for chronic absenteeism, this according to barangay captain Michael Ralota.


Ralota said that Mary Geeve Cabrera, chairperson of the Sangguniang Kabataan, was removed from the payroll of the barangay council effective July 1, on the very day of her expulsion. 


In his letter addressed to Department of the Interior and Local Government regional director Rene Burdeos and city director Patricio Gabuya, Ralota said that Cabrera was absent since March this year without official leave.

Newly appointed DILG 7 regional director Atty. Rene Burdeos yesterday told The Freeman he was surprised to have heard of complaints against the office's participation in such activities when it is supposed to be non-partisan.


Burdeos said there could have been miscommunication between DILG personnel and local chief executives.
