[Title] => Desperately seeking for a tax shelter
[Summary] => "I have read that if you own a company, you enjoy some sort of tax shelter for property and other income-generating assets you have. Can you tell me how this applies to Philippine laws?" (Raquel of Sumatra, Indonesia)

Under Philippine laws, a corporation is considered as having a separate legal personality from its owners or shareholders. As such, it is separately subject to income tax and other applicable taxes on corporations, although its liability is generally limited to the extent of its assets.

What are some of the things that we should take note of in availing of a payment scheme to make up for our delinquent payments?

A
.Got a credit card? Ever tried paying late? Well, just in case you haven’t, you will normally see in your statement of account the amount for your actual purchases plus a finance charge or interest plus a late charge. Except for the reward points and free insurance, this is similar to late payment of taxes.

I am an independent contractor and my wife helps coordinate most of my projects. What are the tax pros and cons of putting her on my payroll?

A.
Marital dominance issues aside, the obvious reason why putting your wife in your payroll is a good thing in that the salary that your wife gets as an employee can be deducted as a business expense. This is advantageous for your business since the salary she will receive will be an item that could reduce the taxable income of your business.

A.
Thank heaven (I’m pretty sure you know where your aunt now is!) for your beloved aunt for giving you "mannah".

Talk about death and taxes. Gross income does not include property transfers from one who has departed to an heir, such as the inheritance you received from your aunt.
