[Title] => Man gets 15 years for illegal drugs
[Summary] =>
The court yesterday sentenced a man to 15 years imprisonment after it found him guilty of possessing a pack of illegal drug.
In his decision, Regional Trial Court Judge Gabriel Ingles described as "lame excuse" the defense of Marianito Ponteras and said that the arresting officers did not have any improper motive to charge Ponteras.
In his defense, Ponteras claimed that the policemen merely got angry with him when one of them touched a human waste when he reached for the pack of shabu that he allegedly thrown to the ground.

[Title] => Presidential rebuff for NORSU head
[Summary] => I failed to attend President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyos visit to Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental Saturday. Heavy colds kept me away.
By Sunday noon, two students of the Negros Oriental State University (formerly the Central Visayas Polytechnic State College) told me the interesting story of a taray President who refused to install the NORSU head.

[Title] => Negros Occidental police chief relieved
[Summary] => BACOLOD CITY The police director of Negros Occidental was relieved from his post yesterday in what Gov. Joseph Marañon, who, along with other local politicians, recently withdrew his support for President Arroyo, claimed was politically motivated.
But Chief Superintendent George Aliño, Region 6 police director, said no politics was involved in the relief of Senior Superintendent Vicente Ponteras, a known close friend of Marañon who had endorsed him for the post.

[Title] => Hype on bombings triggers stampede
[Summary] => A loud explosion purportedly caused by the explosion of an airgun tank Saturday sent spectators of the Unigames in Dumaguete City scampering out of the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex.
"It was like a stampede of wild horses," reported a Visayas Daily Courier correspondent covering the games.
As of press time, there was no additional report on whether anybody was injured in the stampede. Many of those who rushed out of the complex were reportedly hysterical, including some members of the games media bureau who thought that terrorists had exploded a bomb.
