                    [Summary] =>

Believe it or not, it was an episode of Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern that piqued my interest on Phuket. Sure, the host had a buffet of fried grasshoppers, stir-fried stingray, red weaver ants and whatnot. But it was a plateful of bad boys — chili- and tom yum-flavored cashews — that got me so mouth-wateringly interested. It seemed to be a place that offers nutty, spicy pleasures — whether culinary, visually or anything touristic.

I needed a break, and my brother needed a break. And with all those recession-friendly packages strewn all over town, we tossed some ideas around, and ended up in Phuket for the weekend.

The trip from Manila was a breeze, since we got upgraded (many thanks to Thai Airway’s Chertchai Methanayanonda), so weren’t that antsy yet. We were herded into a van, and off we sped into the night. Our tour guide Mung muttered that we were just in time for the show.

A show?

Yes, a special show. He told us that we would check in after the show, and then have dinner.
