                    [Summary] => STA. ROSA CITY, Laguna — The city government has allocated a P1-million reward to anyone who could provide information on the killers of former Mayor Leon Arcillas.


The city council approved the cash reward, embodied in a resolution sponsored by councilor Artemio Gomez, to speed up the resolution of the May 10 killing. 


Arcillas, although surrounded by his security escorts, was fatally shot by at least three men along the hallway of the second floor of the Sta. Rosa City Hall shortly after he officiated the wedding of 11 couples.

                    [Summary] => A female community leader who had led an anti-graft campaign in Sta. Rosa City in Laguna, and the security chief of Rodriguez town in Rizal were gunned down in separate incidents, police said.


Melita Trinidad Carvajal, 51, president of the Samahan ng mga Mamamayan Para sa Kagalingan, Kabutihan at Kapayapaan in Sta. Rosa, was waiting for a ride in front of her house when two men shot her in the head and chest yesterday. 


Witnesses said the gunmen were about to flee when they noticed her still breathing so they returned and finished her off with more bullets.

                    [Summary] => STA. ROSA, Laguna — Police have ruled out politics and are reportedly eyeing a possible love angle in the ambush of this town’s mayor last Sunday night. 


Senior Superintendent Edwin Corvera, Laguna police director, said that while all angles are being explored, politics is the least possible motive because Mayor Leon Arcillas has no known "tough" political rivals. 


Arcillas, president of the Laguna Mayors’ League, is now serving his second term as mayor of this town since he beat former mayor Tito Gonzalez in 1998.
