ZAMBOANGA CITY — A beauty pageant contestant and her five back-up dancers were injured when a smoke-belching device onstage suddenly caught fire and exploded in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay last Monday, police said.


Police said Maybel Soronio, a student of Medina College, was performing along with her back-up dancers Bernardo Gomonit, Frank Carpo, Cloyd Campomanes, Daniel Gomonit and George Jordan during the talent portion of "Mutya ng Ipil 2006" when the incident happened.
