Zambo coed, 5 dancers hurt in beauty tilt fire

ZAMBOANGA CITY A beauty pageant contestant and her five back-up dancers were injured when a smoke-belching device onstage suddenly caught fire and exploded in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay last Monday, police said.
Police said Maybel Soronio, a student of Medina College, was performing along with her back-up dancers Bernardo Gomonit, Frank Carpo, Cloyd Campomanes, Daniel Gomonit and George Jordan during the talent portion of "Mutya ng Ipil 2006" when the incident happened.
The victims reportedly put out the fire onstage themselves as the audience scampered for safety. They suffered burns on different parts of their bodies. Roel Pareño
