A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale rocked parts of Mindanao yesterday but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its advisory, Phivolcs said the quake was recorded at around 8:45 p.m. on Monday, with the epicenter located at 242 kilometers southeast of General Santos City.

The tectonic quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Davao City and Intensity 2 in General Santos City.

Aftershocks are expected, it added.

Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said the first quake with a magnitude of 4.8 was felt at Intensity 2 in Davao City and Intensity 1 in General Santos City, and the second, with 5.2 magnitude, was felt at Intensity 3 in Davao City.
