The Philippine National Police (PNP) is set to file charges against exiled Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founding chairman Jose Ma. Sison over the attack on a mining firm in Surigao del Sur by New People’s Army (NPA) rebels last Tuesday.


PNP chief Director General Oscar Calderon said Sison will be charged for robbery, destruction of private property, economic sabotage, and violation of the election gun ban.

Camp Crame sources said Calderon is set to announce the revamp a few days before the retirement of Querol on Aug. 13.

Expected to replace Querol is Director Reynaldo Varilla, head of the PNP’s Directorate for Intelligence (DI) at Camp Crame.

PNP chief Director General Arturo Lomibao administered yesterday the oath of office to Lapena, who holds one of 10 Directorial Staff positions in the PNP that oversees the day-to-day operations of all regional police offices and national support units nationwide.
