[Title] => DepEd to overhaul public school curriculum
[Summary] => Alarmed over the poor comprehension skills of many public school students, the Department of Education (DepEd) is now in the process of "overhauling" the curriculum for public education.
Education Undersecretary Fe Hidalgo said curriculum experts are now reviewing the curriculum of public schools to relieve the students of unnecessary subjects.
"Our present curriculum is congested. It is heavy for the students, especially those in elementary...There are so many subject areas and the students cannot learn them well," she said.

[Title] => ACT backs Roco plan to scrap service fee
[Summary] => Public school teachers threw yesterday their support behind Education Secretary Raul Roco’s plan to scrap the service fee received by employees and officials of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) who help prepare their payroll checks.
Carol Almeda, president of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), said they welcome the reforms which Roco is instituting at DECS.
"It may be the first step toward rectifying a lot of wrong things in the policies and programs of the DECS. A lot of things really need to be done," she said.

[Title] => Metro bus operators seek new fare hike
[Summary] => Various transport groups may ask the government to grant them another fare increase.
As this developed, a group of public school teachers reiterated their demand yesterday for a P3,000 raise in their monthly salaries.
Last Tuesdays P1 fare hike given by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has not satisfied some transport leaders.
They complained that although the minimum fare was raised by P1, the LTFRB had extended the new rates coverage from four to five kilometers.
