Too often, I’ve been asked what makes good music in an all-analog sound system.

It’s been almost two years since I began writing this column for The STAR, and the experience has been awesome, to say the least. I have gained new friends and got re-acquainted with old ones. Andrew owns and manages AMX Audioworks, maker of both professional and consumer-grade audio equipment. It was an afternoon of exciting and engaging dialogue on the future direction of hi-fi. Some even suggested that the future points to sound equipment with no movable parts, which is highly possible as shown by the flash or USB drive.

Getting a lot of feedback for somebody who has just warmed up his seat is certainly gratifying. It goes to show that the number of "audio nuts," as my wife jokingly calls us, is steadily increasing. As expected, questions from new readers center on how they can make out good sounds from bad.

This newspaper was where I spent some of the best years of my career. I’m proud to be part of The Philippine Star’s early years, when e-mail and computers were unheard of in a country trying to stand up and dust off the ugly spoils of the 20-year Marcos dictatorship.
