Health Secretary Francisco Duque III yesterday ordered 500 families from three barangays in the path of an unknown chemical flowing down the Marilao River to remain in two new evacuation centers until the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has determined that the substance is not hazardous.


In a telephone interview, Duque said DENR tests would allow authorities to determine if residents could safely return to their homes.
