MANILA, Philippines — Blackwater used an explosive fourth quarter to complete a come-from-behind victory against the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 106-100, in their PBA Governors’ Cup clash Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Bossing outscored the Fuel Masters 29-14 in the final frame to grab the victory, snap a three-game losing streak, and get the bounceback victory against Phoenix.
Kentrell Barkley flexed his muscles with 34 points, to go with 16 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal. Sedrick Barefield added 26 markers, three boards and three dimes in the win.
A pair of free throws by Robert Johnson III late in the third quarter gave Phoenix an 86-77 lead heading to the fourth period.
But 11 straight points, capped by a triple by Barefield, pushed the Bossing ahead, 88-86, with 8:06 left.
The Fuel Masters, though, moved ahead with an and-one play by Ricci Rivero, 93-92 with 3:51 left. But huge plays by RK Ilagan, Barefield and Troy Mallilin turned things around and gave the Bossing a 103-93 margin with about 53 seconds to go.
And while Phoenix tried to get out of the hole, the deficit was too much to overcome.
Ilagan added 15 points and six rebounds in the win. Mallilin and James Una had eight points each off the bench.
BJ Johnson carried the Fuel Masters with 45 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Ricci Rivero and Kai Ballungay chipped in 15 and 12 markers, respectively.
Blackwater rose to an identical 3-3 win-loss record, while Phoenix dropped to a 4-2 slate.
