Shaky finish drops Chan to joint 10th after 72

MANILA, Philippines — Aidric Chan battled the demanding conditions at the Serapong course with grit and composure but faltered late, ending up with a one-over 72 to slip from joint third to a share of 10th halfway through the rich Singapore Open on Friday.
The young Filipino standout, looking to build on his eagle-spiked opening 66, recovered from a shaky backside start of one-over 36 with birdies on Nos. 2 and 4 to stay in contention. However, a bogey on the fifth halted his momentum, and another dropped shot on the par-3 eighth saw him settle at a two-day total of 138 at Sentosa Golf Club’s par-71 layout.
Chan now trails new leader Jeongwoo Ham by six strokes.
Ham, who equaled Ekpharit Wu’s first-round 64 late Thursday, cooled off with a 68 but held on to the solo lead at 10-under 132. He maintained a two-shot cushion over veteran Jazz Janewattananond, the former Order of Merit winner, who surged with a 66 for a 134 aggregate.
Tomohiro Ishizaka and Gaganjeet Bhullar matched 68s to tie at 135, keeping the leaderboard tightly contested heading into the final 36 holes of the $2-million International Series event.
Wu, after his stellar opening round, stumbled with a 79 to fall to joint 19th at 139.
Despite his slide, Chan remains focused on regaining his rhythm heading into Saturday’s pivotal third round.
Meanwhile, fellow Filipino Justin Quiban struggled to a 73 after an opening 69, dropping to joint 43rd at 142. Carl Corpus missed the cut after a 75 for a 145, while Angelo Que (78-151) and Sean Ramos (74-154) also failed to advance.
Chan hit just six of 14 fairways but managed 13 greens in regulation. His putting proved costly, finishing with 32 putts, though he salvaged three pars.
