Nxled gets even with Galeries

MANILA, Philippines — Nxled got back at early conqueror Galeries Tower and hammered out a 25-23, 25-18, 25-23 victory yesterday to stay in the hunt in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The Chameleons were laser-focused against the same bunch that dealt them the first of their four defeats this conference last Feb. 19 at the Filoil Arena.

And it came at the most important time as the LED light company set up another knockout match, this time against Farm Fresh.

A win would catapult Nxled straight to the single-round semifinals where sibling rivals PLDT and Cignal await.

“We were just really locked in and watched a lot of tapes and we knew we made mistakes back then,” said Nxled spiker MJ Phillips, who came through when it mattered with 17 points.

For a change, Nxled wasn’t too reliant on Brooke Van Sickle, who was held to 14 hits by the Highrisers’ rock solid net defense.

While it slowed down Van Sickle, Galeries Tower had no answer to Phillips.
