POCB, DMW partner to expand construction industry prospects

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Overseas Construction Board (POCB) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) have teamed up to help expand global opportunities for local construction firms and workers.

A memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed by POCB and DMW on Aug. 25, to strengthen the cooperation to support Philippine construction companies and Filipino professionals and skilled workers that engage in projects overseas.

Under the MOA, POCB and DMW will implement initiatives on workforce readiness, industry development, market access and international engagement.

“Behind every structure is something far more important: the people, the workers,” Consunji said, noting that Filipino construction professionals and skilled workers have been involved in major projects across the Middle East, Asia, Oceania and other parts of the world.

He said that international partners continue to trust Filipino builders for their professionalism, adaptability, technical expertise and strong work ethic.

As emerging technologies are bringing changes to the construction industry and leading to higher demand for specialized skills and growing competition for talent, he underscored the need to ensure that Filipino workers remain prepared and globally competitive.

“Together, let us continue opening doors, creating opportunities and demonstrating to the world what Filipino builders can achieve,” Consunji said.

For his part, Cacdac emphasized the importance of government and industry collaboration to help Filipinos access career opportunities overseas.

The POCB is the implementing arm of the Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines, which is an attached agency of the Department of Trade and Industry.

POCB is pursuing opportunities to enhance the global competitiveness of Philippine contractors and construction-related enterprises.
