Pinoy booters in tough draw

MANILA, Philippines — Seven-time winner Thailand and 2010 ruler Malaysia stand in the way of the Philippines’ bid for back-to-back semifinal appearances or even better in the ASEAN Football Championship-Hyundai Cup set for July and August.
The Pinoy booters got familiar foe Thailand as well as Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos as opponents in Group B during Thursday night’s draw.
The Top 2 after the single round-robin group play will advance to the Final Four against counterparts from Group A, which is composed of defending champion Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia and the winner of the qualifying round between Brunei and Timor Leste.
“Although we all know how difficult it will be to achieve one of the first two places, we are also aware that we are a very competitive team that we can be fighting for classification until the last game,” said coach Carles Cuadrat.
