NU Pep Squad seizes record 9th UAAP Cheerdance title
MANILA, Philippines — Arigato, National University.
For the second straight year, and in front of 20,129 fans, the National University Pep Squad reigned supreme in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition.
NU, which had a ninja-themed routine peppered with gravity-defying stunts, twisted and turned its way to the title -- the school's ninth overall.
They scored 695 points, head and shoulders above the second placed Adamson Pep Squad, who had a score of 659 points.
NU scored 87.5 points in tumbling, 89.5 in stunts, 81 in tosses, 87 in pyramids, 37.5 in dance overall effect, 103 in choreography, 145 in technique and 69.5 in group execution, with just fgive points deducted for penalties.
Adamson, who had an adventure-themed act, scored 79.5 in tumbling, 85.5 in stunts, 77 in tosses, 84 in pyramids, 33.5 in overall effect, 96 in choreography, 139.5 in technique and 66 in group execution.
The Far Eastern University Cheering Squad finished third with 658.5 points and brought home P20,000 with their Filipino childhood games-themed routine.
Now, NU has the most number of cheerdance competition championships, breaking the tie with the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe and the University of the Philippines Pep Squad, which both have eight.
