Pinay jungolfer rules Australian Challenge

MANILA, Philippines — Rising Filipina golf prodigy Cailey Gonzales showcased nerves of steel as she clinched the girls’ 11-12 division title in the US Girls’ Golf Australian Challenge 2025 at the Heritage Golf and Country Club in Chirnside Park, Victoria, Australia recently.
What made Gonzales’ victory truly special was not just the title itself, but the manner in which she earned it – under severe and shifting weather conditions that tested even the most seasoned young competitors.
The 12-year-old Brent International student opened with a three-under 69 at the challenging Heritage layout. On the second day, with rain and gusty winds, Gonzales birdied the second hole and recovered from miscues on Nos. 3 and 7 with a decisive eagle on the par-5 ninth to post a 35 before play was suspended.
When worsening conditions forced organizers to call off the remainder of the round, Gonzales’ 104 aggregate stood firm as the winning total – securing a four-stroke victory over local bet Grace Mackay, who finished with 108 after rounds of 72 and 36. Olivia Espina of the US placed third with a 111 following a closing 37.
