MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) yesterday confirmed the death of a second Filipino following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that hit Myanmar last month.

The Philippine embassy in Yangon informed the DFA that the remains of a second Filipino victim had been identified.

“Out of respect for the wishes of the deceased Filipino’s family, the Department is unable to provide any further details,” the DFA said.

On Wednesday, one of four missing Filipinos in Mandalay, Myanmar was confirmed dead.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo Jose de Vega said the overseas Filipino worker’s remains were retrieved Tuesday night.

Experts of the National Bureau of Investigation identified the remains through the victim’s tattoo and passport.

Repatriation of the remains could be difficult since the body was severely decomposed, De Vega said.

Authorities are still searching for two unaccounted Filipinos, the DFA said.

More than 3,000 people were killed after the devastating temblor shook central Myanmar.
