MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos said he’s proud of 19-year-old Filipina tennis star Alexandra Eala for reaching the semifinals of the Miami Open by defeating world No. 2 Polish Iga Swiatek in straight sets.

At Thursday’s media standup, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said Eala’s big accomplishment made Marcos proud.

“This is really a huge success for a Filipino. Malacañang, the Palace, the President is proud of the Filipinos who bring honor to the Philippines,” said Castro.

Castro also congratulated Eala and extended her gratitude to all countrymen who bring honor to the country.

This victory is Eala’s biggest upset win in the tournament, securing her a place in the semifinals, where she will face world No. 4 Jessica Pegula today.
