MANILA, Philippines — Amid the inclement weather brought by Tropical Storm Enteng, another barge ran aground in the waters off Navotas yesterday.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Karangalan 2 was moored at San Miguel Corp. Shipping Lighterage Wharf when its forward ropes snapped, causing the barge to drift.

Despite efforts by the PCG’s tugboat Limay 3 to tow the barge to deeper waters, strong winds and waves continued to drag Karangalan 2 toward the shallow portion of Barangay Tangos North.

Motor tanker EBC Marical VI has been aground in Barangay San Roque since Monday.

The PCG said the storm’s impact extended to Barangay Bagumbayan North where the barge ASC Regine and motor tanker Patriot III ran aground, causing damage to the seawall in the area.

The PCG said its tugboats remain on standby to tow Karangalan 2 and EBC Marical VI as soon as the weather improves.

On Monday, passenger ship M/V Kamilla caught fire after it was hit by a cargo vessel. All 18 crewmembers of the ship were rescued.
