MANILA, Philippines -- The La Salle Green Archers just pulled off a massive upset.

The reigning UAAP champion La Salle blew a big double-digit lead but had enough ammunition down the stretch to upset the Converge FiberXers, 120-112, Friday night in the 2024 Kadayawan Invitational Basketball Tournament in Davao City.

La Salle led by 19, 69-50, after a 3-pointer by Vhoris Marasigan.

The PBA squad, however, stormed back and tied things up at 101-all at the halfway point of the final quarter.

Converge played catch-up in the next minutes. A split from the line by Schonny Winston kept the FiberXers within reach, 112-115, with 54.3 remaining.

In the next possession, La Salle went to Kevin Quiambao, who drove to the lane.

The reigning UAAP most valuable player then kicked the ball out to Earl Abadam for the booming 3-pointer, 118-112, with 37.2 seconds left.

After a missed opportunity by FiberXers, Quiambao sank the touchdown layup to settle the final score.

Meanwhile, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters remained unblemished in two games thus far in the tournament after escaping the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 104-102, in the first game of the day.

La Salle and Converge are now holding 1-1 win-loss records, while Phoenix dropped to 0-2.
