Asusano falls short in Paralympic javelin medal bid
MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippines ended its stint in the Paris Paralympics without a medal after para javelin thrower Cendy Asusano fell short of the podium in the women’s javelin throw - F54 Saturday afternoon (Manila time).
Asusano, the last Filipina competing in Paris, finished fourth in the event.
She tallied a distance of 15.05 meters in her first attempt, a personal best.
However, she could not replicate or move past the distance in her next five attempts.
The 34-year-old Filipina finished behind gold medalist Uzbekistan’s Nurkhon Kurbanova, who notched a world record of 21.12m.
Nigeria’s Flora Ugwunwa, brought home the silver medal with 19.26m, followed by Iran’s Elham Salehi with 16.24m.
Maria Bogacheva of the Neutral Paralympic Athletes tallied 14.55m and Montenegro’s Maja Rajkovic finished last with 12.63m.
Aside from Asusano, para trackster Jerrold Mangliwan, para swimmers Ernie Gawilan and Angel Otom, para taekwondo jin Allain Ganapin and para archer Agustina Bantiloc competed for the Philippines in Paris.
