MANILA, Philippines — The Negros Muscovados lit it up in the second quarter, pounding the Iloilo United Royals, 32-17, in a breakaway en route to a 72-66 triumph in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Sixth Season play at the Bren Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga yesterday.
Jeremy Cruz, Hubert Cani and Jefferson Comia starred for coach Bonnie Garcia’s Negros quintet as they chalked up a fourth win in nine games while dealing the Royals a sixth loss against two wins.
Cruz top scored with 15 points going with nine rebounds, Comia came through with 11 markers also with nine boards while Cani contributed 10 as the Muscovados repulsed the Iloilo side led by Gwyne Capacio with 14 markers.
Also with lift from Shaquille Imperial, CJ Cansino and Mark Nonoy, the Royals chipped away from their 19-point halftime deficit but came up short in their fightback.
Imperial finished with 13, Nonoy with 12 and Cansino with 11.
