Welcome UAAP super rookies Poyos, Dongallo

MANILA, Philippines — Young aces have taken UAAP women’s volleyball by storm in the last two seasons, with Bella Belen of National U and Angel Canino of La Salle making history as back-to-back Rookie-MVP winners.

For this season, welcome super rookies Angeline Poyos of Santo Tomas and Casiey Dongallo of University of the East.

They had their fiery duel Wednesday with Poyos hammering 24 points on 19 hits, two blocks and three aces and Dongallo delivering 23 points on 22 hits.

Poyos got the last laugh as Santo Tomas hacked out a 18-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 win in the match which could well be a glimpse of UAAP’s future.

“Nagkaharap na din kami nung high school and masasabi ko rin na magaling siya. Skills-wise, ang galing niya talaga. Thankfully, nanalo kami,” said Poyos, a product of UST high school that duked it out with Dongallo’s California Academy in multiple junior events.
