Original Penguin eyes golf presence, hosts mini-tourney

MANILA, Philippines – Several sports personalities and celebrities took part in the Par-Tee golf event at the Powerplant Mall in Makati City Monday.

Among those who participated in the mini-tournament staged by clothing line Original Penguin are College of St. Benilde head coach Charles Tiu and his wife Sari, news anchor Rizza Diaz, basketball player Nick Demusis, sports anchor Andrei Felix, sports reporter Pauline Verzosa and sportscaster Patricia Bermudez-Hizon and her son, Paul Hizon.

Content creators Sofia Jahrling and Jeanette Ong, director Robbie Dinglasan and RJ Maclang, celebrity Sam Godinez Valenciano and her brother Mikel Godinez, celebrities Benjamin Alves and Chelsea Robato and content creator Stevie Eigenmann and model Gita Gumabao participated in the tournament.

The nine-hole mini golf tournament was intense, with the pairs going head-to-head to triumph over every obstacle.

The Valenciano-Godinez duo won the games, followed by Felix and Verzosa as the first runner-up.

The pair of Maclang and Dinglasan, and the duo of Jahrling and Ong, tied as second runners-up.

Cheryl Lee, the CEO of the Original Penguin, said that they are eyeing to be a chief supporter of golf tournaments in the future.

“We sponsor tournaments a lot, recently, since we have been promoting the [clothing] line,” she told reporters.

“So, that is very possible in the future,” she added.

For now, there are no plans for the clothing line to expand its focus to other sports outside golf, tennis and pickleball.

They, however, are already planning to have an Original Penguin sports store in the near future.

“The sports store will just carry golf, tennis and pickleball. But that is gonna happen one or two years from now,” Lee said.
