Young golfers vie for slots in IMG world meet
MANILA, Philippines — The stage is set for the IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships qualifiers with more than 40 young golfers vying in the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP)-organized event that fires off today at the Riviera Golf and Country Club in Silang, Cavite.
JGFP president Oliver Gan said the first events to be disputed are the 6-under and 7-8 boys and girls divisions.
On March 24-26, the Eagle Ridge hosts the qualifiers for 9-18 categories.
“We have around 150 golfers for the 9-18 qualifiers, that’s why we decided to hold the 6-8 early in a separate tournament. We thank Riviera Golf and Eagle Ridge for accommodating the JGFP,” said Gan, a former NCR program officer of the Philippine Sports Institute – a branch of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
The IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships 6-under and 7-8 boys and girls categories will be played at the Singing Hills Pine Glenn and Pine Oak courses at Sycuan Resort on July 16-22 in El Cajon, California, while the 15-18 will be played at Torrey Pines. The 9-14 will be played in various courses.
