MANILA, Philippines — John Albert Mantua surpassed the SEA Games qualifying medal standard in shot put with a personal and season best of 17.02 meters on Day 1 of the MILO-PATAFA 2022 SEA Games Performance Trials at the Baguio Athletics Bowl.
Mantua, a native of General Santos City, missed by one centimeter the silver-medal mark in the 2019 SEA Games and thus secured a spot to the SEAG in Hanoi, Vietnam slated May 12-25.
“Congratulations are in order for John and his coach, Arniel Ferrera,” said PATAFA president Philip Ella Juico.
Meanwhile, Janry Ubas led all competitors after three events in decathlon.
Ubas paced the field with 2,390 points followed closely by Aries Toledo with 2,316 points.
In women’s heptathlon, Sarah Dequinan topped the shot put event with a distance of 10.89 meters, followed by Josefa Ligmayo with 10.28 meters then Alexie Mae Caimoso with her personal and season best of 10.23 meters.
