Motolite forces rubber match for third

MANILA,Philippines — Myla Pablo recalled fierce form, firing 24 hits and powering Motolite to a come-from-behind 26-28, 25-14, 25-19, 25-17 victory over BanKo-Perlas as they forced a sudden death for third place in the PVL Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan yesterday.

The former National U star admitted she was far from being 100 percent but her crisp hits and leadership proved enough to inspire the rest to get back at the Perlas Spikers after dropping a 23-25, 23-25, 18-25 decision in the opener of their best-of-three series for third last Wednesday.

“I’m not yet 100 percent in shape, still feeling some pain (in my foot). But I had to step up and lead this young team with Iris (Tolenada),” said Pablo, who also added two kill blocks and claimed the game’s top honors.

They missed stealing the first set as Sue Roces came through with her patented running attack and Ana Gopico banged in an off-the-block hit to clinch the extended duel. Motolite dominated the second set with Pablo combining with Tots Carlos.
