MANILA, Philippines — Zedrick James Borja displayed top form as he toppled Tyrone Macalos to capture the boys’ crown while Trixie Andaya dominated the girls’ side in the premier division of the Alaska Fortified IronKids at the Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus, Cavite yesterday.
Borja clocked 15:31 minutes to clinch top honors in the 13-14 bracket in a big rebound from his third-place effort in the swim-run event in Davao last March. Macalos turned in a 15:58 clocking for second while Dash Ramirez finished third in 16:10.
Andaya, on the other hand, overpowered her side of the centerpiece event that was more than just a race and a healthy physical activity for the kids but staged to likewise help them develop good habits such as discipline and hard work as they try to become better athletes.
She timed 18:12, beating Princess Patilan, who placed second in 19:29, with Bernadette Cabatian clocking 20:27 for third in the event put up by Alaska and organized by Sunrise Events Inc.
Sharing podium honors were Marc Dula (boys’ 11-12), Aubrey Tom (girls’ 11-12), Darell Bada (boys’ 9-10), and Jiana de Asis (girls’ 9-10). Dula timed 12:13 to edge Jessly Roman (12:33) and Kristoff David (12:35); Tom clocked 11:57 to beat Kira Ellis (12:19) and Francesca Barretto (13:32); Bada turned in a 9:37 clocking to topple Rafael Ubiadas (10:16) and Rylee Marasigan (10:23); and De Asis timed 9:19 to nip Alyssa Cabatian (9:20) and Zabelle Eugenio (9:49).
Ethan Kyle ruled the 6-8 group in 7:55, nipping Jose Dimayuga and Cyler Alcantara, who both clocked 7:57 while Samantha Hodges took the girls plum in 8:11, beating Cathlene Yumang (8:42) and Ysabel Dalluay (9:14).
Isabelle Calolot and Christian Guido of Roas Autophile topped the relay 6-10 bracket in 6:08, edging Corrine Cruz and Eugenio of Team Rizal Alpha Dragons.
