Broner spices up final presser with trash talk

LAS VEGAS – Adrien Broner brought his trash-talking A-game Wednesday (Thursday) to turn what was otherwise a reserved press conference atmosphere into an electrifying one.

Broner, the 29-year-old challenger to Manny Pacquiao’s WBA welterweight title, walked on the stage of the David Copperfield Theatre inside the MGM Grand with his trademark swagger to take part in the final presser for Saturday’s big fight (Sunday Manila time).

He and Pacquiao briefly hugged each other right before the presser began.

But as soon as he took the podium, Broner went on attack mode, profanities and all.

“I don't give a [expletive], I don't care that he is an eight-time world champion and all the weight classes and [expletive]. I don't care about none of that,” he told the audience.

“All I care about is as long as my money [is] right, we can have a nice fight,” added Broner, who again guaranteed victory over the 40-year-old Filipino icon.

Renowned boxing analyst Al Bernstein then took over from presser host Jimmy Lennon Jr. and started a Q&A session, with Pacquiao going first.

It was during Broner’s turn that things got more interesting.

“I ain’t even going to lie to you, I don’t (expletive) with you, bro,” Broner told Bernstein right after the latter stated his first question.

Broner accused Bernstein of criticizing him over social media, a claim Bernstein later denied.

“You talk too much (expletive) about me on Twitter and I’m just letting you know. I’m just being real, bro. I already feel like you’re against me. I’d rather have Roy Jones or Stephen A. Smith ask me some questions,” Broner continued.

Although startled, Bernstein acted professionally and just moved on to ask Broner’s trainer Kevin Cunningham, who also refused to speak.

His efforts to get responses from Team Broner ending up futile, Bernstein just asked both Pacquiao and Broner to pose for the traditional face-off.

Even some members of the media weren’t spared from Broner’s tirades when he fielded their questions after the face-off.

"I hope you write something different about me. I just want to see you write something different about me,” he told one reporter who asked for his thoughts on gaining the media’s respect and getting overlooked.

“I see everything, man. All you [expletive], I read a lot,” Broner

Pacquiao, on the other hand, had been very tolerant of Broner’s verbal jabs throughout the promotion.

He had nothing bad to say about Broner.

“Trash-talking is just not my thing,” Pacquiao used to say.

He just lets his fists do the talking.
