MANILA, Philippines – UE head coach Joe Silva does not mind making a complete overhaul of his Red Warriors team come Season 82 of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament.
With only win to show in his first year with the Recto-based team, Silva said revamping the squad is one of the options he’s thinking in the coming off season.

“I still have to talk to the management, kina Boss Bong (Tan). Of course, we are considering that (revamp),” said Silva.
“Talent wise, kung mas magaling yung papasok, why not. At the end of the day, success is about winning and if we’re getting better players, bakit hindi? It will be a challenge to the existing players to do better,” he added.
Only Paul Varilla and Rey Mark Acuno are graduating after the season while Alvin Pasaol’s status is still up in the air as the league’s top scorer is mulling to join the coming PBA Rookie draft next month.
UE’s only win was against FEU, 90-65, in the first round but the Red Warriors were winless in the second phase of the elimination.
Silva admitted Season 81 was a learning experience for him especially coming from a winning program with the Ateneo juniors basketball team.
“Marami ako natutunan, realizations. We could have won one or two more games. This is my sixth month with the team at ngayon ko lang nakikita na-grasp na nila ang system,” said Silva.
“The silver lining is we did not win in the second round but we have better performances overall,” he added.
While he’s awaiting the decision of Pasaol, Silva said he’ll monitor the development of his Team B and UE’s junior squad.
