MANILA, Philippines — With its 6-0 win over India Saturday and having edged out England by goal difference, the Philippines’ Payatas-based all-girls team jumped to the top of Group C rankings in the Street Child World Cup to earn the right to face Mauritius in the quarterfinals on Sunday in Moscow.
“The competition will only get tougher at this point, but our girls will surely deliver their best performance and make us all proud,” team manager Roy Moore said via their official Facebook page.
Moore said the quarterfinals match will be livestreamed on their Facebook page Sunday afternoon at around 3:45 p.m.
Some Filipino expatriates in Moscow were at the stadium to cheer Team Philippines on during their games.
On Saturday, Philippines and England shared points, 1-1. The Filipinas shot in an early free kick goal, but the Brits were able to equalize in the second half on the field.
Earlier in their first match, Team Philippines routed India, 6-0. The goal difference the Pinays earned was more than enough to give them the goal difference versus England, enabling them to lord over Group C.
