MANILA, Philippines — Top local and international anglers clash for top honors in the 11th Siargao International Gamefishing tournament, which kicked off last Wednesday in Pilar.
Surigao del Norte Rep. Francisco Matugas expects keen competition with species such as marlin, tuna, grouper, dorado and billfish up for grabs for the elite field in the week-long tournament.
“Gamefishing is a big thing in the seas of Siargao,” said Matugas, adding that this year’s event will be the biggest thus far in terms of prizes and participation.
Gracing the opening of the event are former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Tulfo-Teo and Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez and Mayor Richard Gomez.
