Miranda takes pole post in Vios Cup

CLARK, Philippines  – Daniel Miranda of Obengers took pole position going into today’s Vios Cup Season 4 Round 1 kickoff race after topping the qualifying session of the Super Sporting Class at Clark International Speedway here yesterday.

Miranda submitted a best time of 2:25.088 in the second lap of the QTT to clinch the lead spot in the starting grid of Race 1 of the premier category in the country’s lone one-make race.

Gerard Loy of Team Biskeg logged a second-best 2:25.687 ahead of Allan Uy of Toyota Quezon Ave., the defending overall champion who ranked third in the qualifying trials with a 2:25.889.

Miko Marestela ranked fourth with 2:25.951 followed by 2015 overall titlist Andres Calma with 2:26.150 and Bryan Co with 2:26.266.

Meanwhile, Mark Sy of Toyota San Pablo emerged as a pole sitter in the mid-tier Sporting Class after posting a best lap time of 2:28.210. Tonton Ramos (2:28.277), Aira Medrano (2:28.441), Rhaffy Latorre (2:28.623), Paul Henderson Perez (2:28.669), and Paul Lomax (2:28.675) rounded out the Top 6.

Evelyn Coseteng of Toyota Alabang drove to the No. 1 position in the Promotional and Celebrity Class after clocking 2:28.741 in the sixth lap. She was followed by Don Vic Portugal (2:29.372), Red Diwa (2:29.481), Arbie Jacinto (2:29.594), Roy Bunag (2:29.660) and William Waltheer (2:29.699).

Race 1 gets going today at 11 a.m. while Race 2 starts at 2:30 p.m.

This year’s Vios Cup features innovations like the introduction of Team Awards, and the application of reverse grid for the Top 6 cars in the QTT for each division in Race 2.

Celebrities, both old and new, are joining the grid this year, including Jericho Rosales, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Fabio Ide, Aubrey Miles, Gretchen Ho, Ella Cruz, Dominic Roque and Jake Cuenca.
