MANILA, Philippines – Aldin Ayo has left Letran and the NCAA as early as late last month reportedly to coach La Salle in the UAAP.
La Salle on Thursday made Ayo's appointment official.
"Upon deliberation of a search committee and consultation with the administration and alumni, La Salle is pleased to announce Aldin Ayo as the new head coach of the men's basketball team," said La Salle in a statement.
The news of Ayo, who gave the Knights a championship this year after they beat the San Beda Lions, going to La Salle came out left a bitter taste in the mouth since he has a live three-year contract with Letran.
But Letran officials and Ayo met in a victory party-turned-farewell part last month and the former decided to let the latter go.
Ayo thus succeeded Juno Sauler and inherited a team composed on Jeron Teng, Jason Perkins, Thomas Torres and Andrei Caracut among others.
