Vera eyes first ever One Championship heavyweight title in Manila card
MANILA, Philippines -- For the very first time in the history of One Championship, a Heavyweight title belt will be at stake.
The match will be part of the “Spirit of Champions” card to be held in SM Mall of Asia Arena on December 11, 2015, as announced by One Championship CEO Victor Cui during the Press Conference in the Grand Ballroom at the City of Dreams Manila.
Contending for the belt will be hometown hero Brandon “The Truth” Vera going up against colossal British standout Chi Lewis “Chopper” Perry.
According to CEO Victor Cui, the reason why the first Heavyweight title match was to be held in Manila was because of it “being the greatest city in Asia with the passion for sports and martial arts, in fact Manny Pacquiao is a shareholder in One FC”.
Vera, himself, admitted preparing and working hard for the fight because the match itself will be a double-edged sword, “I have been training hard. At home, if I am not sleeping or eating, I’ve been watching films. My opponent has been talking trash all the time. He is tall, but he is slow."
“The homecourt advantage would definitely give me the energy and passion, pero kapag natalo ang pangit," added by the 37 year old Vera.
If he wins the belt in front of his home crowd, Vera promised to leave behind the title here in the country to “uplift the spirits of the kids running in the streets and those working 15 hours and beyond to feed their family”. “I will just get the belt when I return back to the country”.
In addition to Vera’s Heavyweight title match, Fil-American Mark Streigl will go up against the undefeated Australian Jordan “Showtime” Lucas while Ruel Catalan will battle Brazilian grappler Alex Silva and Ana “Hurricane” Julaton will showcase her wares against Russian kickboxer Irina Mazepa.
One FC “Spirit of Champions” is also presented by Haier Air and LG. Tickets for the event are available at www.smtickets.com.
