FIVB coaching seminar ongoing

MANILA, Philippines – The Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI) is making sure that development of the sport in the country is not restricted to the players alone.

The LVPI, in coordination with the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), is conducting a 15-day coaching seminar at the Arellano University in Pasay City.

Jose Romasanta, LVPI president, said vice president Peter Cayco is on top of the seminar, a Level 2 coaching course that aims to develop the tactical knowledge of local coaches.

It’s part of the LVPI program that will develop the volleyball coaches, both men and women, in the country. The seminar started last Monday.

Facilitating the seminar are FIVB course director Shanwen Zhao of China and FIVB course instructor Razieh “Samira” Seifzadeh of Iran.

“This coaching course is a boost to our national program,” said Cayco, owner of the Arellano University in Pasay City.

“Volleyball is very popular here, but in the international arena we’re still way behind and that’s what we want to address,’’ he said.

Also providing help are LVPI directors Ariel Paredes of Philippine Super Liga and Rod Roque of the UAAP.

Romasanta said among the participants in the course are coaches Oliver Almadro of Ateneo, Mac Gepuela of Miriam College, Emilio Reyes of Army/UST, Clarence Esteban of PAF/UST, Johnson Bariso, Jojo Hugo and Adrian Comla.

“We should always update ourselves with innovations as far as volleyball is concerned,’’ said Romasanta.
