MANILA, Philippines – Undrafted Bong Galanza and Euro-Med came away with an impressive debut in the Pilipinas Basketball League last night at the Filoil Flying Arena in San Juan.
The former University of the East stalwart scattered 23 points to lead Euro-Med to an 89-84 triumph over Supremo Lex.
Galanza, a dead shot swingman, scored 12 of his total output while veteran frontliner Jam Cortes contributed 20 markers for the Yong Garcia-mentored Euro-Med.
The 6-foot-2 Galanza drained two triples at the height of Supremo Lex’s rally.
He had one midway the final period then hit another one in the 2:17 mark of regulation, giving Euro-Med an 83-76 lead.
Those baskets gave Euro-Med the cushion it needed to enter the win column of this eight-team cast.
Supremo Lex, which lost to Sta. Lucia last Wednesday, absorbed its second loss.
There was one scary moment during the game as Raphael Banal injured his shoulder while trying to stop the fast break play of Cris Bitoon with 5:45 left in the game.
Banal, son of former PBA player and coach Joel Banal, didn’t return in the game.
“Let’s pray that it is not that serious,” added Garcia.
