Kyrgios wins in Shanghai, faces Nishikori next

SHANGHAI — Nick Kyrgios hit 13 aces and saved all five break points he faced to beat Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-3, 6-2, in the Shanghai Masters.

The Australian Kyrgios will face Japanese star Kei Nishikori next, who had a first-round bye.

"Obviously Kei, he's one of the best players in the world right now," Kyrgios said. "He's got unbelievable returns. He's a great athlete. He's playing well. So I know what I have to do."

Kyrgios, who  is No. 32 in the ATP rankings, will be taking on the No. 6 Nishikori for the first time in his career. 

The young netter, who is also scheduled to play for the Singapore Slammers in the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) will be trying to continue his winning ways and extend Nishikori's loss since bowing out of the Japan Open quarterfinals at in the hands of Benoit Paire. 

Nishikori is also due for the IPTL, which is set for a second leg here ion December. He will suit up for the Japan Warriors. - With reports from Philstar.com
