MANILA, Philippines - The UNTV Cup, a basketball tournament among the country’s public servants, unwraps its new season on Monday with the Office of Ombudsman joining the roster of participants in the fourth edition of the event at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
A brainchild of multi-awarded broadcaster Daniel Razon, the event gives public servants another opportunity to play an active role in helping the underprivileged members of society through the sport.
“We are staging this basketball tournament to keep our public servants in tip-top shape and at the same time provide additional help to the needy ones,” said Razon.
From six teams during the inaugural tournament in 2012, the tournament now has 12 teams from the government agencies where the champion team will be donating its P2 million prize to its chosen beneficiary.
Bannered by former amateur hotshots in Ariel Capus and Don Camaso, the Judiciary Magis defeated the Malacañang Patriots in a best-of-three title series last year.
