Brazilian fancied in Rider Cliff divefest

MANILA, Philippines - Topnotch foreign cliff divers led by Brazilian defending champion Jucelino de Alves and mainstays of the Philippine team pit skills today in the fourth Club Punta Fuego and Rider Cliff Diving Invitational Challenge at Punta del Sol Peninsula in Nasugbu, Batangas.

De Alves, along with last year’s runner-up Andreas Hulliger of Sweden and Filipino divers, take the challenge of jumping from a height of 20 meters – up from the previous events’ 14 meters – as they vie for honors in the open class category for adults.

Junior divers from the 8-16 age bracket also take center stage in the outdoor competition which seeks to promote the sport of cliff diving in the country.

A total of 23 divers, including four international bets, aim to impress judges with their dives, which will be scored 0-10 based on judges’ impression of the dive and its degree of difficulty, including their initial leap, the number of twists and somersaults they make, as well as their position during the somersaults until they hit the water.
