Tom, 8, will compete in the 50m and 100m butterfly, 50m and 100m backstroke, and 50m and 100m freestyle.

“Phuket has one of the finest aquatics facilities in Asia. The championship is open to Asia-Pacific region and one of Asia’s classic races for age-groupers,” said PSL president Susan Papa.

Medals will be awarded to the first, second and third placers while trophies are up for grabs for swimmers who get the highest points after the competition.

“The two girls are ready to compete and will try to break the Philippine swimming record in their age category. It will be the first time for Tom to be exposed to international competition and I know that she will do great,” said Papa, who will accompany Soguilon and Tom along with PSL secretary general Maria Susan Benasa, Victoria Soguilon and Shirley Tom.

“Also in this competition, they will get a chance to see the Dutch and Hungarian national teams currently training in Thanyapura, Thailand,” Papa added.

After the Phuket tournament Soguilon will join the 10-member PSL squad that will be participating in the 2015 Indian Ocean All-Star Challenge slated in Perth Australia April 1-8.

Soguilon, who also bagged the Philippine Sportswriters Association Milo Junior Athlete of the Year and Tony Siddayao Awards, will see action first in the Phuket International Swimming Championship on March 27-29 in Thailand and will be flying to Perth for the 2015 Indian Ocean All-Star Challenge
